Wolfstep

This one is not for the folks at home
I’m sorry to leave but I had to go
Who the **** wants to die alone all dried up in the desert sun?

I’m sorry to leave but I had to go
Who the **** wants to die alone all dried up in the desert sun?
short description of character.
- Wolfstep certainly looks the part of an intimidating fighter. A tall tom with broad shoulders, he’s filled out his frame with some considerable muscle from training. His paws are large enough to give a cat a painful wallop on the head even with his claws sheathed and, thanks to his predilection for food, it’s been joked that he beats his enemies by sitting on them. If he didn’t have Clan responsibilities that required so much energy, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him looking like a well-rounded kittypet.
In color he’s primarily a medium gray with white on his stomach, forelegs, hind paws, muzzle, and up his nose. His fur is short but thick and in the warmest days of greenleaf he’s liable to overheat if out in the sun too long.
But when there’s frost on the ground and a nip in the air, there are few better cats to curl up beside. He has amber eyes that occasionally appear almost green and a small, almost invisible scar below his right ear.
PERSONALITY
- Wolfstep loves easily. He cares deeply for his family, develops crushes quickly, and is one of the first cats waiting to peek into the nursery when new kits are born. His patience and willingness to listen make him an ideal companion for cats who might have something to get off their chest. Wolfstep himself, however, tends to bottle everything inside. It’s led him to harbor resentment for those he loves the most and may even drive him away from them one day.
He can be a bit of a joker at times, but his humor leans heavily of self-depreciation. Wolfstep’s opinion of himself is quite low and he tends to blame the hardships in his life on his own failings. He refuses to stick up for himself and it only adds to the frustration he’s bottling up inside.
That frustration, he guiltily believes, is part of why he’s a good fighter. Even training for battle with his claws sheathed is an outlet for him to let off his steam without repercussion and throwing his anger into his blows keeps it out of his words..
In relationships both platonic and romantic, Wolfstep tends to be very tactile. He’s comforted by the feeling of another cat beside him and prefer to be in close proximity with some cat whenever he can be. This tendency used to manifest as clinginess in his youth and some cats teasingly referred to him as Fleapaw for the way he stuck close to his mother. But it explains why he tends to sleep in the most crowded part of the warriors' den where he's pressed snugly against his Clanmates.
When he’s curled in his nest and free from the pressures of the real world, Wolfstep dreams of running away from CreekClan and starting his own family.
HISTORY
- The last of a litter born to Pinewhisker and Fawnspots, Wolf defied expectations by being born the largest and often shoved and trampled his smaller siblings to get the best spot at meal times. Coincidentally, he was the hardest of the three to wean. In those early days it was easy to play with his brother and sister and not notice the tension between his parents.
But as they grew older, Wolf could feel the iciness between them even as they tried to be there for their kits. When Fawnspots told them that they weren’t going to live in TreeClan but in a new group called CreekClan, he was devastated. He ran off and hid in an old badger’s den where the animal’s scent covered his own. There he cowered, secretly hoping that Pinewhisker and Fawnspots would become so worried that they would forget their anger and stay a family. But it wasn’t long before his mother was dragging him out and leading him to his new home.
In CreekClan he took on the -paw suffix alongside his siblings. His mentor, still adjusting to Clan life herself, was a knowledgeable hunter and fighter but a horrible teacher. Wolfpaw was a slow learner at first and his mentor was critical and blunt. Over time he became an increasingly skilled fighter and his mentor learned how to better encourage him, but the damage had been done and their bond remained stilted. His hunting skills were always mediocre and he despised hunting in groups where the other apprentices could see him mess up and make fun of him while his mentor criticized him.
As he aged, he increasingly realized the constant bickering in his family. Being averse to conflict, he became the cat his kin confided in. He was quickly burdened with the drama of his family and tried to ease the tensions between the others with little success. Unlike his siblings, who favored one parent or another, Wolfpaw loved both of his parents and often felt torn between staying loyal to his mother and still having some relationship with his father. That only caused more strain with his littermates, especially Gorsepaw.
After a particularly grueling assessment, Wolfpaw asked his mentor if she would recommend that he be made a warrior. Instead of answer, she posed a question: if he met TreeClan in battle, could he fight against his kin? Wolfpaw hesitated before answering. "I would fight the entire Clan, if I had to, but not Pinewhisker." She asked if Wolfpaw thought his father would show the same restraint and the question lingers in his mind to this day. Regardless he was ordered to fast for a day (the hardest trial any cat could ask of him, surely!) and given the name Wolfstep.
Since earning his warrior name, Wolfstep has started withdrawing from his family. He tries to avoid them when he can and only steps in when he can’t stand to see them bicker anymore. He dreams of a life where he can escape the shadows of his kin and thinks occasionally of joining HillClan, but fears being rejected and left Clanless or being accepted and having to face his family in battle.
