died at 70 moons|| straight || ex-leader
all we needed was a spark of hope
a tall sand-striped cat with emerald eyes.
Star had always looked much like his father. Even in death, their ghostly representations are almost identical. In life, Star was a very tall, sand-colored cat. Though he was never particularly strong or well-muscled, he was always tall and swift. He made up with his swiftness where he lacked in muscle. It worked for him. His fur was short and usually well kept. He cared a lot about his appearance and always wanted to look good, regardless of what was going on that day. As his aunt had always told him, a good look leads to a good first impression. And he took that to heart. Star always believed himself to be a rather handsome cat, yet he never spent the time to settle down for a she-cat. His sandy pelt holds a mixture of dark spots and stripes, but the most beautiful part about him is his eyes. You know the common saying, "you speak with your eyes" yeah, well that was Star alright. His pale, emerald eyes seemed to say everything about his current emotions. No matter his emotions, they always seemed hopeful. As if he was always ready to see the good in every cat, even if he had just witnessed the bad. That, as his aunt would say, was the most beautiful thing about him. But these are only the most notable things about him, as there is much, much more to Star.
You can't forget the little things. Ever. The things that you notice, but don't really take into account. The things that you see and think nothing of, because they're normal. His small, sandy paws which hide pairs even smaller black claws. His unusually tall and wide ears, or even his long white whiskers. These don't point him out between a group of look-alikes. They aren't important at first. You see them and could probably forget about it by morning. No, these things are not important. As I've said, there is much more to Star.
Then, there are the smallest of details, though they are no less important. The things you noticed after you've spent so much time with him. The way his long, white whiskers twitch when he is lost in thought, or how his long striped tail swings back and forth when he is nervous. These differences could not be pointed out easily. His aunt was the only cat to notice them. These little things are the things that make him so different than any other cat. So unique in his ways that if one would notice, their entire idea of him would be altered. To put it simply, Star was a uniquely built cat, inside and out.
And now, in death, his oldish age has seemed to completely disappear. He looks no older than 30 moons, though it is obvious through his eyes that he is much older. Star eyes hold a feeling of nostalgia, his ghostly fog following him with every step. As if you could look into them and see your ancestors and his ancestors and every cat in between. Even to this day, his eyes still hold the ones thing he needs most. Hope.
PERSONALITY
Now, this is the part where it all gets interesting. This is the climax of your favorite movie. Where all the action begins. But I can tell you this now, it's not as simple as your favorite movie. Star is about as complex as a spider web or a rabbit holes, weaving in millions of different directions. There is no easy way to put him, but there are many traits that can be pointed out and explained upon.
"Patience, persistence and perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success." - Napoleon Hill
We all know the common quote, patience is a virtue. This describes Star so accurately it's almost scary. Without patience, Star would have likely died a lot earlier than he did. It wasn't just a stroke of luck that landed him where he is today. It was patience. The patience to deal with anything that came his way, and deal with it accordingly. The fact that he could calmly assess any situation and easily decide what he wanted to do and how. Patience really saved him, honestly. He needed the patience as deputy, to ignore the hatred and insults that were spewed at him. He needed the patience as leader, to deal with cats who would break the rules. And he even needs patience in death; the patience that each of these clans will find their way to Starclan and the warrior code.
"Intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings." - Salvador Dali
Without ambition, what can you accomplish? Some may sugarcoat this and say otherwise, but the honest answer is nothing. Who would Star be if he was not ambitious? Nobody. You see, he had this ambition engraved deep inside of him ever since a kit. This same ambition drove him to quickly climb the ranks of the clan. It drove him to become an early warrior and even an early deputy. It would lead him to become the proud leader of Thunderclan, and to lead his clan until the destruction of it. Most importantly, he needs this ambition now. That ambition that drove him to drop the prefix of his name and go by Star. That ambition that caused him to want to seek out these new clans so badly. The same ambition that will lead him to succeed with his dreams, no matter who or what tries to get in his way.
"I am sustained by the tranquility of an upright and loyal heart." - Peter Stuyvesant
Tranquility is also a virtue. It is very alike to patience, but it seen differently in Star's eyes. He need to be tranquil. Without this, he wouldn't be able to function. He couldn't have gotten where he is today if he wasn't calm enough to push through these life threatening situations. I understand life threatening is ironic to say since he is dead, but it makes no different. He was as calm and collected in life as he is in death. It makes no difference to him. As long as he can keep calm and ready to react, he has everything under control. The fact that he can calmly watch something vile unravel upon him, and keep himself composed, and then react accordingly is possibly the best thing about him. This may be his most important trait. Without this, who's to say he wouldn't snap and kill a rule-breaker? Or decide to take over all of Riverclan? You may never know, but as long as he can remain tranquil, everything is going smoothly.
"Nothing great in the world has ever been accomplished without passion." - George Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel
Now, this may also seem closely related to ambition, but I assure you it is different. Star likes to put passion and hope hand in hand. Or, paw in paw for his sake. Without passion, there is no hope, and without hope, there is no passion. This is also a remarkable thing about him. The fact that he can sit and watch a cat break the rules, but still fight to see the good in them. He can walk into the dreams of a vile, murderous leader and still find the good heart that is somewhere hidden beneath him. He would never be able to attain this if he wasn't passionate about what he does. His hard work, his passion, his hope, is all leading back to one thing. The clans. He knows he has a duty to uphold, and if he was not passionate about it, he would never succeed.
At this point, Star may seem like a completely perfect cat. This is not the case. All cats have their faults, their failures, their downfalls. Star is no different. He has faults. He has failures. He has downfalls. But, his positives do outweigh the negatives, and that's for sure.
"You don't get ulcers from what you eat. You get them from what's eating you." - Vicki Baum
Though I did say that Star is tranquil and calm, there is also something that can get to him quite easily. Himself. He allows his mind to take complete control and override the truth. He over-thinks everything. If some cat gives him a simple look, he begins to assess that look. Why did she look at me? What have I done wrong? Is there something on my face? Does she love me? Too many questions, too many options. His main downfall. With his specific job, this may seem like a ruining trait, but he manages to stay afloat. The trick to this is simple - he doesn't let it show. He keeps this entire trait disguised, hidden deep within those emerald eyes.
"The only pressure I'm under is the pressure I've put on myself." - Mark Messier
Now, this one is a little different. This trait could go both ways, depending on how you look at it. Sometimes it could be a good thing, and other times a terrible thing. Over commitment. Star likes to load himself up with endless amounts of crap to get done. And once he starts, he never stops. His aunt used to always tell them that he would work himself to death. It was a continuous cycle. He becomes so obsessed with a simple idea and he builds an entire moon around it and get it done. He spends too much time on one thing.Even though he has all the time in the world, since he's dead. It's a simple, but honest negative to him. He will admit it, too. But the thing is - this trait can also be a good thing. He always has something to do, he's always busy and working. Well, whether it is good or not, Star seems to make it work. He doesn't really have a choice. Besides, it's better than him being lazy, right?
HISTORY
Despite his name and affiliation now, Star wasn't always this way. This once magnificent leader was born Tallkit of Thunderclan. He was the only kit of his litter, and never came to know his parents much. His father was a Thunderclan deputy who was slain over the constant dispute of Sunning Rocks with Riverclan. Tallkit never got to meet him. His mother on the other hand, was a beautiful queen who decided to leave once her mate had been slain. She had always said there was nothing left for her in the clans. He would never see her again until he joined Starclan, reuniting with his family. Instead, Tallkit was raised by his aunt Snowcloud, who surprisingly looked nothing like him. She became very dear to him, and would be the most important cat in his life until their death, which came simultaneously.
Tallkit quickly rose through the ranks, which wasn't a surprise being the son of a brave deputy. Tallkit was mentored by the Thunderclan leader, easily picking up his traits and skills. Because of that, he became a warrior a moon early. He took on the name Tallstripe due to his striped pelt, just like his father had.
Many moons passed, and young Tallstripe was no longer the same cat. He had matured drastically and was molded into a noble and ambitious warrior. Around the age of 38 moons, he was named deputy. This was a surprise to the clans, only because of his young age. They all knew he would become deputy eventually, but not so soon. Cats of all the clans publicly criticized him, especially at his first gathering as deputy. Tallstripe bravely ignored the comments, for he knew he was much better than that. Much, much better than that. And 20 moons later, he would prove that.
And at exactly 20 moons later, he would prove himself right. The Thunderclan leader was out of lives to spare, and it was Tallstripe's time to take on leader. He was nervous, but he knew he would not fail. Tallstripe became Tallstar, and was welcomed as leader with open paws.
His leadership lasted many, many moons. Tallstar didn't run into many problems with leading.. It seemed to come fairly easy to him. Little did he know, he'd be leading for the rest of his life. He lasted through many complicated battles and disputes, always staying true to his heart, and because of this, his leadership would last until the end of the clans.
And when that day came, Tallstar still had 2 lives left. He had fought bravely through many battles and had became a bit worn out, though he could still hold his own. Tallstar and his aunt escaped with their lives, despite Tallstar losing one more to protect Snowcloud. So that meant he only had one left to spare. They seemed to be out of options, they had no where to go, nothing to do, there was chaos ensuing around every corner. Tallstar did the only thing that he had ever known - lead. He safely lead his aunt out of the forest territory, and encouraged her to walk many, many miles. Unfortunately, this was the end of the road for the two, though they weren't sad about that. They knew it was coming. The two failed to find food, water and shelter. They spent many moons walking their lives away, their already stretched bellies visible to the bone. Eventually, the walking was done. They found a small shaded patch of grass, and lay side by side, ready to be taken to Starclan. And just that happened. Together, the two journeyed up to the beautiful Silverpelt, being greeted by old family and friends. Tallstar was content.
This content feeling didn't last. He stood idly and watched as the clans were ripped apart and their remains scattered among the world. He could do nothing. Tallstar continued to watch as his clanmates and their descendants failed in life, accomplishing completely nothing at all.
But then, there was a spark. A spark that lit the forest and his entire life on fire. It was a spark of hope. Three clans descended from the old ones had risen. Creekclan, the ones of Shadow and River. Lived by water.. Typical Riverclan cats. Then there was Hillclan, the ones of Wind. They lived in the open moors. Once again, typical Windclan cats. And then came the last one. This one made Tallstar the most proud but also the most disgusted. Treeclan, the ones of Thunder. They lived in the forest. He didn't wish to admit it, but once more, typical Thunderclan cats. But there was one big, unavoidable problem. These clans... These cats were not like the old. They were all loners or rogues, careless to the warrior code. They had no beliefs or values. They didn't even know Starclan. This simple fact, was the spark to Tallstar's dying fire. Tallstar, once Tallstripe, dropped the prefix of his name. It was no longer important... Starclan was the only thing important, not his appearance or where he came from. He had a mission.
Star vowed to not only himself but also Starclan to bring these clans to glory. They needed something to believe in. Something greater than territory. Something greater than food. They needed morals. They needed values. But most importantly, they needed the only thing that Star could give. Hope.

[1144]
As a day in the forest came to an end, the dreams of a Treeclan leader were just beginning. Yet this wasn't any Treeclan leader.. It was Leafstar, a vile dictator who was known for killing warriors and kidnapping kits, which were the least worst things among his actions. He really had no place as leader, and was just sending Treeclan deeper and deeper into chaos. Usually, this leader dreamt alone. Him chasing a squirrel up a tree, or defeating the Creekclan leader in battle. Except, tonight was different.. He wasn't alone. Mist began to enclose around him and various, large trees began to appear around him. It was Treeclan territory.. No.. It was somewhere else. Somewhere just like Treeclan.
Something.. No, someone was walking with him in his dreams. A small paw appeared from the mist and made its way toward the leader, his sleek body slipping in and out of the shadows. Two, bright amber eyes appeared through the misty dreamworld. Realistically, this cat was much older than the leader, yet it was not visible. The leader, clearly frightened, unsheathed his claws. "Who are you? What do you want?" his voice was filled with anger and disgust, yet it was still clear to Star that he was scared. The ghost cat dipped his head respectfully. "Leafstar" his voice was tinted with age, but he looked as young as he had died. Leafstar, the treeclan leader, was awestruck. How did he know his name? What kind of dream was this? No, what kind of nightmare was this..? Frightened, the leader backed up until he felt the trunk of a tree behind him. He had no where to go. Star gave another small nod, "I mean no harm." he meowed calmly, his face emotionless. Leafstar shook his head, still in disbelief. How was another living cat walking his dreams? It made no sense, there was no realistic way to put it. Stubbornly, the leader took a seat at the trunk of the tree, ears pricked. Star smiled. So, he was going to listen.
"You are having problems in Treeclan, I can see" Star joined the cat in sitting, and lay himself across from the leader, his tail curled around his paws. "They don't want to listen to you.. There is talk of rebellion. But you give them no choice. You are no dictator" the starclan voice kept his voice calm, yet supporting in his claims. The stubborn leader shook his head and rose to his paws. "They worship me! I am invincible in my clan" his lip curled and his tail shot up defensively. The leader would not be quick to admit in his dictating ways. He liked being the complete and only power in the clan.. It made him feel.. well, powerful. Star shook his head, but remained patient. "You are not invincible.. Creekclan and Hillclan are planning something.." yet Leafstar remained defiant, unwilling to comply with anything the starclan cat said.
Star was running out of options. It was hard to argue with a cat with a cat who was so selfish and stubborn. It would come back to bite him in the tail. Yet, Star remained patient. It was something he had began to develop after dealing with so many cats like Leafstar. Star exhaled, trying his best to remain calm. Maybe it was time for Leafstar to know the truth.. Even though he had already gone so far down the road of the dark forest. "Your ancestors would not be proud of you. This is no way to impress them." Star was now standing, his amber eyes burning into the ignorant leader.
It was as if Leafstar had been physically hit by something. He was visibly shaking and his eyes nervous. Leafstar couldn't even form a proper sentence. "w...What? W-what do you mean?" he stuttered, stumbling over his words. On the outside, Star was completely calm and collected - he had done this before. But on the inside, he was booming with excitement. It had worked. "Oh, you didn't know? Yes. You are a descendant of the ancient clans" Star meowed smoothly, not moving an inch from his position. His amber orbs continued to burn deeply into Leafstar. "Thunderclan to be exact. The same Clan as I." his voice was filled passion, as if all he wanted in the world was for Leafstar to drop his old ways. And maybe it would work, too. Leafstar had been known for numerous vile things among the clans.. The list could go on and on. Star had been sent to put an end to it. For good. Whether it worked or not was up to Leafstar himself. Would he be bold enough to put an end to his old ways? The hillclan and creekclan plan may have been a bit of a fib, but it hadn't worked anyways. Star smiled now, and gave another nod. "Your grandfathers grandfather was the last leader of Thunderclan. He was the bravest cat I have ever known. He died for you. Now, ask yourself, would you do the same?" Star now backed up, and began to return to the mist of the dreamworld.
Leafstar eyes grew wide and he nodded frantically. "Of course! Y-yes of course! I won't let you down!" the leader quickly scrambled to his feet, chasing after Star into the mist, yowling like a kit. "Wait! Who are you.. W-whats your name?!" surprisingly, Star stopped dead in his tracks. He turned to face Leafstar once last time. "My name is Star. And I will be back." as he said that, illusions of other cats appeared among the two. Previous leaders, deputies and medicine cats of Thunderclan. Leafstar's eyes grew wide as he marveled at the various cats. Star gave one final nod. "We will be back. Don't let us down. Specifically, don't let him down" he flicked his long tail toward a massive grey tom, who looked identical to Leafstar. His grandfathers grandfather - one of the last leaders of Thunderclan. The large tom gave Leafstar a short nod, but said nothing.
With a violent shake, Leafstar's emerald eyes snapped open. He was soaked in cold sweat. That was all real.... The misty forest.. The leaders.. Star. It wasn't just a dream. That was reality. They were up there. Starclan had not abandoned him. As if his past had been completely erased, Leafstar quickly rushed out of his den and let one booming yowl sound. "Let all cats old enough to climb the great oaks gather beneath the high branch to hear my word!"
Things were going to be different now. It was a new beginning. Not only for Leafstar and Treeclan, but also for Star and Thunderclan. Watching from above, Star smiled proudly at the leader whom began his apology and sent scouts to retrieve the other clan leaders. A repentance was in order.
Star had always looked much like his father. Even in death, their ghostly representations are almost identical. In life, Star was a very tall, sand-colored cat.
