A badger raked its large paw across the face of a cream pelted cat. Rabbitwind could feel his ear rip, and taste the blood dripping down from his ear. Run, Rabbitpaw! Get help! So, the warrior did the only thing he could do - run.
Unfortunately, he ran his way straight out of his dreams. Rabbitwind awoke with a shutter, his two yellow-green eyes snapping open. He brought one small paw up to feel his ear. Still ripped. The lanky warrior sighed and forced himself to his paws. It was hard to believe that Rabbitwind was still exhausted. Battling constant night terrors, the cat hardly got any sleep. He just couldn't get the memory out of his head, and it had happened moons ago. The warrior slunk out of the warriors den and glanced around. The camp seemed a bit empty. But it was still early, too. Ignoring the hunger pangs, he trotted out of the entrance of camp. He loved the sound of the birds chirping in the morning. A run would be nice. That's what the creamy warrior needed right about now. Maybe a run down to the shore would be good for him, he could cast some of his thoughts away. The warrior nodded, as if agreeing with his own thought process, and took off along the moors.
Running always made him feel at home. Contrary to popular belief, he wasn't raised on the moors. Yes, near them.. But no where on them. The moors were such a beautiful place to him. So much room to run and get out energy. Because with a cat like Rabbitwind, energy built up. A mixture of stress, hunger, frustration, wounds.. everything. He struggled to keep up with it all, but a good run would soon clear his mind. The long cat raced along the moors, hopping over rocks and rabbit holes alike. He felt so free. The wind whipped his face and tried to slow him down, yet it was no match for his sheer speed. Hell, his name was generated from sheer speed. Wind was his suffix!
After some time of running, he heard the move of the water and the shore came into sight. Such a peaceful place. It really didn't fit into Hillclan. It felt like such a different place.. Like a whole other Clan should be living here, swimming about and catching fish. Rabbitwind still wasn't used to the whole Clan thing. It was weird to him. He struggled to accept it, but eventually realized it was all he had. At least he hadn't put up as big as a struggle as his father, though. That cat was long gone.
Rabbitwind padded through the sand and up to the shore, letting the cold water wash up onto his paws. It felt good. The water was so calming. The warrior turned and backed up a little, then sat in the sand. He curled his tail around his paws and looked out, watching the sun rise above the pond. What a time to be alive... If only he had someone to spend it with. OPEN LAIKA OF THQ

0000, rabbitwind, sorry it's short. ♚ the darkness that rose above his head stretched across the sky in a way that it brought no light to his eyes. the moon was hidden, gone and lost in time where there should of been it's life in the sky. it was not there, nor were the stars - the sky was black - edged with no light and therefore complete and utter darkness took hold. the sky was not cloaked in thick blankets of dark clouds - oh no it was cloaked in sheer blackness that rendered the tom speechless and frighten. he could not see where he was, nor could he smell anything other then the chilly reminder that it was cold and deep in the darkness. suddenly the flapping of wings echoed over ear and the tom's eyes widen in the darkness, as he stumbled to his paws; forcing himself to move in the darkness - over rocks and stumbling in holes; he moved with a quick paw. he could feel his lungs struggling for the crisp air and as he heard the screeching of the creature behind him, he chanced a glance over his shoulder. razor sharp talons were little less then an inch from his tail when suddenly the blinding light of the sun screamed its way into his vision and he yowled.
♚ he awoke with a start, a young kit he knew only as marble had his tail between her teeth; a wide mischievous grin upon her face and some twisted part of snowfire grinned helplessly at the young she-kit. marble's mother had been hurt during the birthing of the kit; causing her to be the only surviving kit and snowfire had taken to the kit so much that he almost wished that marble's mother would stay so he could mentor the young she-cat. but time was cruel and he had already set his eyes on a different cat; one he thought would bring him much more promise then the little mischievous kit whose teeth were only as sharp as her wits. with a chuckle - rare on the tom's maw - escaped, he watched marble trot over to him and demand he tell her a story. "perhaps another time. go back to your mother, marble and maybe one day you will be a warrior along side me." but he dare not wish to get her hopes up more then that - and with a heavy to his paws, the tom watched the young kit bounce away - shouting her happiness at becoming a warrior.
♚ if only. with a yawn, snowfire moved from his nest and out of the camp with the speed of his ancestors on his side. he had not known what to do - nor did he know how to spend the day. the sun was washing down upon his orange and white coat; lighting it in a mix of ice and fire like his mother and uncle had so seen in him. with green eerie eyes peering from his face, the tom wondered just who had thought it wise to name him the way they did. did his uncle have full say or did his mother jokingly whisper such a name to hill early on. regardless snowfire thought it odd and wonderful all the same. with a slow draw of breath, the tom made his way out into the territory towards the sandy beach. his way was slower then others; a even pace set and settled as he had grown used to. with each step he moved quickly and quietly through the grass until at last he broken through the grass onto soft sand. ♚ "rabbitwind? how goes you?" he meowed quietly, watching the tom with green eyes curious and cautious.

Nothing. That was what this sleek Hillclan warrior heard. Darkness was all he could see.. yet the badger was still there. Still in his mind. Still haunting his dreams. When Rabbitwind wasn't being hunted in his dreams, the badger followed him through reality. Constantly. Relentlessly. Never giving him a break nor a chance to catch his breath. His greenish yellow eyes held the 1,000 yard stare. They seemed so alive but yet so empty. It only took him a few moments to remember where he was.
With a shudder, Rabbitwind blinked hard and shook his head. It wasn't a dream.. Just another flashback. But... There was something else. He had heard a voice. A very familiar voice. The voice of his leader, Snowfire. But, that wasn't part of the flashback? Or was it? Rabbitwind had no clue. He seemed so lost in where he was, like the only thing that mattered was that badger and the moment that occurred moons ago. Why was it still haunting him? More importantly, why was it still haunting him? Every cat had escaped without death. Well, almost every cat. The image of his mentor flashed into his mind; the large broken boy. Rabbitwind shook again.
Moments later, the view of the sunrise and the pond came back into view. Somewhere near him, his leader stood. Rabbitwind blinked his eyes a few more times and turned to the interruption of his meditation - which ended up just being a flashback of horrors, but you get the point. He gave a small, nervous nod which did not fit him. He had been caught off guard by his leader. He didn't expect any cat to be up and running at this hour. "Oh" he meowed oddly, his voice shaky. The tom shook his head once more. "I'm well, Snowfire." he hid his fears in his voice, and it would be easy to tell by taking a look at this tom that he was not anything close to well. If he was well this whole situation wouldn't be occurring. He wouldn't need to come to this beach every now and then to relive the same nightmare he lived every night.
Not really enjoying the thoughts that followed through his mind, he gave another small awkward nod. "And yourself?" he asked, his voice returned to his confident self as the memories slowly faded from his mind. As long as he kept talking, he was okay. As if for the small amount of time he had spoken, all of his worries had simply vanished. He kept a weak smile across his face as he spoke, his green-yellow eyes once again returned with life. He was back. snowfire | still a little rusty, i apologize LAIKA OF THQ

0000, rabbitwind, sorry for the wait ;n; also sorry it's short, my muse is literally zero. ♚.he did not know what to say when the tom did not at first respond, a quiet settled around them as the eyes of the younger tom seemed to lose their unforced nature and become forced and slowly, the soft wording of oh sounded, and snowfire took note quickly that the tom held a shaky voice - and with a soft sigh, the elder of the two toms turned to the younger with a cold look; trying to figure out what the tom had gotten on his mind to visibly shaken him. I'm well, snowfire. lies, snowfire's ears flicked his disapproval of the lie, but he kept his voice hushed and silent for now. he it would not do the other pleasure to have the troubles reawaken so soon after the troubling. and yourself? snowfire's whiskered twitched with silent annoyance before he nodded himself. pledged of nightmares. he answered honestly, restoring to the distant, but warm voice he used with many cats of his clan.
♚. but with a silent sigh the older tom stretched his muscles, tight and for not as he fought down a yawn that threaten to spill over his lips. i do not sleep as much as i used to. he meowed before rolling his shoulders to release the tension that had gathered there. with each roll, his eyes soften and his body relaxed completely, paws flexing in the sand as he turned to stare at rabbitwind. but it is good that i have found you alone rabbitwind - i have some things to go over with you. he meowed slowly taking great caution to not give it all away just yet, and with a flick of his tail he gestured for the tom to walk with him. come let us walk and talk. he meowed quietly, paws moving him forward with little regard on if the warrior would follow him or not - it did not bother him much, should a cat not obey he would know, he always found out in the end. with a closed off look in the distance the tom began to speak once more.
♚. i have come to speak to you on terms of the new cat we have found, pitch - or pitchpaw as i have renamed her. she arrived not a fortnight ago and i have yet to do her trails. he was cautious now, eyes shifty and wary. i want to ask of you something - a honor of sorts. he did not speak of deputy, no he spoke of him becoming a mentor of sort. pitchpaw will need a cat to help her along, encourage her through these trails. he meowed quickly and sharply; turning to regard the tom hoping he would get the picture now. with a ease that even he did not know, snowfire stopped short of the water beyond them and smirked. they needed this cat in their clan - their was something of her that would benefit him - he knew it - but what it was he did not know and so with a soft pop of his own breath he turned to regard rabbitwind. ♚. i wish you to mentor her, strengthen her so she will pass the trails. i plan to test her in two moons times. he meowed sharply, cold and withdrawn, eyes reflecting the ice within his own veins.

Now, Rabbitwind had been much more attuned to reality. He was awake, aware and attentive. A few of the things his leader had told him had actually caught him off guard. Nightmares? Had he known? Was Rabbitwind that obvious? Or maybe Snowfire had been experiencing the same. The creamy cat shrugged, but nodded in agreement. "At least I'm not the only one" he muttered instinctively when he mentioned nightmares. Once he heard Snowfire's next comment, he became much more aware. What was going on? His ears pricked and he rose to his paws, accompanying Snowfire on this walk.
Listening carefully as he spoke, there was a mix of emotions that pushed their way into Rabbitwind's heart. Excitement. Worry. Of course he was excited. How could he not be? He had never had an apprentice before. But there was one real question here. Would he be enough to train her? He did not know Pitchpaw well. Would she be too stubborn for him? Too proud? Not good enough? No, that last one wouldn't be the case. Quickly, Rabbitwind put up a facade. He allowed himself to put on a mask of maturity as he nodded slowly, his green-yellow eyes stayed toward the sand. "Really?" his foolish purr escape his maw and he instantly cursed himself. Shaking his head, the young warrior corrected himself. "Of course, Snowfire. I'll do it. I wont let you down" his voice came out in a stutter and moved along rather quickly and nervous, but it was the truth and nothing but.
He may have came out a bit cheesy, but Rabbitwind was too much in the moment to realize. He was excited, but nervous. One thought sat in the back of his mind, one that he refused to acknowledge. One dreadful, disturbing thought. One that if he said it out loud, he would likely be revoked of this deed. The fact that the horrific event that haunted his apprentcehood would be repeated. Rabbitwind shook at the thought of the lumbering badger.
He couldn't ignore it now. Now, it was real. It was here, among them, walking through the sand and climbing its way into Rabbitwind's mind. Leave me alone.. Just go.. I'm better than this. Noticing he'd been a bit out of it once more, Rabbitwind nodded. He raised his eyes to face Snowfire for the first time since his arrival. His creamy paws stopped moving through the sand, like it had morphed to concrete. A realization slipped into his mind. One that made him feel a bit better. Pitchpaw would be good for him. She would be able to help him, regardless of the fact that she was an apprentice. Rabbitwind needed that more than anything. Hopefully it would stop the nightmares. He just needed something.. Anything. Was Pitchpaw that? Rabbitwind forced a small smile, and allowed a simple meow to escape. "Thank you, Snowfire"

i'll never wear you're broken crownhe knew not what to expect from the tom who had mumbled something under breath when he had mentioned nightmares, but when he had asked the tom to walk with him he began his speech. he remembered how his uncle had suggected asking cats their opinion on mentoring instead of demanding it when they were placed upon the spot. part of snowfire had thought it silly and when he came to realize that his own thoughts should perhaps take a portion of what hill wanted, snowfire had sought out cats; from jaystrike to his brother geckocall - where jaystrike had known he'd be deputy of the clan in their meeting; jaystrike did not realize that he had also agreed to an apprentice and with that snowfire had only smirked softy. his eyes flickered to the purr that emerged from the tom beside him; followed by a really? which had snowfire looking away in amusement. of course, snowfire. i'll do it. i won't let you down. the tom stuttered and while snowfire would of wished for a more confident and firm answer, he did like the spunk one of his fastest runners had.
When the halt of pawsteps beside him came, snowfire's head snapped back to regard the younger tom and with a curious brow raised he watched the other look up at him and a rush of pride swept over the older tom. from his mother telling him to act more of a cat in charge, to his father demanding him be one with his warriors, snowfire had worried that all the cats who had bowed their heads and would not look him in the eye had come to live within his clan, but with one look at the tom whose eyes seemed locked on his face, snowfire felt a twitch of his lips tip up into a half smile. thank you, snowfire. the tom's meow was unexpected but as the older cat raised a brow to regard the younger he felt words tumble from his lips. 'you are one of the fastest cats we have rabbitwind - show pride in that. no one just bares the suffix of our ancestors for nothing." he meowed with a smirk now, lips twitching up higher as he turned to regard the the sky and it's wonders.
his dream still lay thick in the back of his mind; it's cruel images burning into his skull with each shutter of his eyes closed before he once more turned to the younger tom. "you are free to come to me with any problems you may have rabbitwind, i know the pledge of nightmares well." he meowed softly, while distant and cold still in it's tone it held a softer note that he had always been unaware of when he spoke to those who needed comfort. in many moons to come he would realize it was how one spoke to a cat he thought family or younger then him that need to be comfort - and in time, as an aging cat he would speak softer and his coldness would die with his fire. of course those moons were to come, but already at thirty some moons, his fire was burning low as the cold seeped in.

With the actually quite comforting meow of Snowfire, Rabbitwind managed a small smile. He nodded slowly, coming to the realization that his leader was right. Windclan.. What a thing. I can't believe I descended from them.. Wow. He brought his gaze to Snowfire and smiled. "You're right. I will." he meowed simply, not having much else to add. Snowfire was right, no matter how much Rabbitwind wanted to ignore that. He had to make his ancestors proud. And if not his ancestors, then his mother. She was more important than anyone.
At the topic of nightmares, Rabbitwind refused to allow himself to be wrapped up once more in the cursed dream. He didn't allow it to break into his head. No badger.. No Doveheart.. He was safe from harm. He found it hard to believe Snowfire also experienced nightmares. What could a brave leader have to be scared about? Besides the other clans.. Rabbitwind shrugged but gave a respectful nod. "That means a lot.. Thank you, Snowfire" he meowed, his usual calm meow returning to his voice. Rabbitwind couldn't help but wonder how Snowfire did it all. How did he, a young leader, manage everything that his position asked for? It had to be near impossible.
To run a clan, to deal with nightmares, to deal with other clans... The mix had to be visibly stressful. Rabbitwind felt bad. Snowfire was only seven moons older, yet Rabbitwind felt like he was speaking with an ancient cat. The cat seemed so much wiser than him.. Why? Was it just because he was a leader or was it more than that? Regardless, the confused cat felt bad. He felt bad that the fact that a cat not much older than him was heaved into this wave of responsibility.
Rabbitwind couldn't help but wonder if Snowfire even wanted to do this, or if he was just doing it because he had to. He felt obligated to say something. Anything. Just to make it known. "I know this doesn't mean much" he began in an awkward meow. "But if you need a cat to talk to.. I'm never too busy" he meowed, his solemn gaze trying to meet with Snowfire. Wait.. That made me sound lazy. But he didn't say that. He was done. He gave a small nod and felt there was no words left to say, allowing Snowfire to get a chance to speak.

i'll never wear your broken crown! [presto]
♠781 rabbitwind
♠♠♠ you're right. I will. the younger tom had meowed and the elder of the two simply offered a reassuring smile - one that tugged hard on the edges of his maw. but then he returned to the subject that seemed to pledge the tom and when snowfire's eyes lifted away, he felt his whiskers twitch softly in warning as his eyes would slowly return to the cat before him; catching his words just a moment after they stilled the air. that means a lot... thank you, snowfire. and while the older tom merely gave a stiff nod; eyes reassuring his final need to help his new found clan, he felt things tug at his heart strings. so many cats depended upon him now; upon his carefully laid out plans and on the ability to work with the other clans should tough times befall him. most nights he would lay in his nest far from his clan, watching as their sides lifted and fell as they breathed and it was puzzle him more then anything when he saw cats still clustered in smaller groups here.
♠♠♠ I know this doesn't mean much, snowfire's head lifted to regard the tom whose voice seemed odd to him. ears flicking up in caution the tom looked rather puzzled by the cats statement, what did rabbitwind say didn't matter much? but if you need a cat to talk to.. I'm never too busy. a pleasant smile pulled at his lips, something kind and tingling with a warm that once filled his very body. long ago before his dreams had been to rule the clan - long before that will wishing had become truth and as he straighten up, nose lifting into the air to regard the sky once more, snowfire pelt his fur fluff up in a silent defense against others trying to worry over his well being. he knew that one day his mind would leave him - but he prayed it was not until he was older then he could care for what happened to him. looking back at the younger tom - several moons younger - he nodded shortly; thinking on how to reproach this topic with out having to draw his own worries into the mix. no, snowfire did not wish to burden those around him with his problems.
♠♠♠ he didn't speak then, only turning his eyes from the young tom then, pondering how one could rely on a cat when all his had was his caution and patience. his nightmares would leave him - or drive him crazy, but he would not put such a burden on another who needed it more then he himself. with a heavy set of his shoulders the older tom simply lowered his hand to his chest and shook his shoulders in slight wariness. it has been long ... he paused his eyes closing once more before giving the younger tom a brief nod. thank you rabbitwind. it was a simple toned response, one that would usually be filtered with caution now laced with a friendly note. there was always time to talk, but for the usually quiet and observant cat there were times where his heart beat a little to fast, and his voice harshly spoke words he meant to keep locked away and as his eyes ranked over his warrior, he lowered his head. a sort of defeat looking as if the world had come crashing down around his very body leaving him to hold whatever he could.
♠♠♠ I hear their screams, he meowed slowly, lifting his head to look at rabbitwind; a unnerving and slightly frighten look crossing his face in the briefest of moments that he wouldn't be sure if the other tom got it. and I am powerless to help them, for they are hidden in a thick cloud of fog. he meowed, looking up at the sky regaining his cold expression and as the memories of his dreams floated behind his eyelids, he whisked them away with a blink, then another before turning to rabbitwind - cautiously looking over the tom. they yowl for me, and I am unable to reach them because I am the victim that will fall next. he adds with a grave expression before turning to look back at the water beside them, waiting for the younger tom to laugh at his own fright - though he knew rabbitwind well enough, he was still uncertain of how to place himself in his clan truly. snowfire, knew he was a lost cause - but he knew his warriors, such as rabbitwind would strive for greatness. As his leader spoke on, Rabbitwind couldn't help but feel like he had known this cat his entire life. Snowfire seemed so open with everything, open to tell him about his past and what his fears were. Rabbitwind wasn't sure why a cat like him would be so open about it, because honestly, he didn't expect that at all. Weren't leaders supposed to be stiff as a rock and never explain their reasoning behind things? Or was that just the typical stereotype? Still, he listened on as Snowfire spoke, seeming to get lost in his description of the nightmare. The white warrior had experienced this all before.. Almost the same exact feeling, the same look in his eyes. Maybe not the same dream, but it still evoked the same feeling. It frightened him, and he couldn't help but twitch uncomfortably until Snowfire was finished. The swift warrior could not force himself to make eye contact with his leader. It pained him, because he had known the same thing. He hated it, and hated himself for it. He did not expect to be pitied, but he really couldn't control himself anymore. He blamed himself for the entire situation that occurred moons ago, but he still could not come to terms with it. Why was it so painful? And why did Snowfire look the same as Rabbitwind? Was it just something that came with the curse of a nightmare? Despite all of this, he continued to listen, his tall ears pricked in amusement, but still, he could not force his green-yellow gaze to meet with his leader.
Still looking out into the pond, Rabbitwind nodded absentmindedly. Mentally, he was facing an army of a million thoughts, but on the outside, nobody was home. He just began to speak straight from the heart, allowing his corrupt thinking come to life. "But what does it mean?" his voice was shaky, and it seemed as if his question wasn't exactly pointed at Snowfire. At this point, Rabbitwind was completely convinced that he'd allowed the demons inside of him to take the reigns and completely control him. "But was that.." he swallowed hard on his words but continued. "was that ever reality? Or simply something that comes to you at night?" Rabbitwind's usually uppity voice was faltered, now replaced by a much more mature, weakened cat. It was weird what one conversation could do to him. He nodded once more. "Because mine are real. And I can't escape it. The same badger visits me every chance of rest I get. He's stalking me" his voice began to raise as he continued on, he was getting angry at himself. Angry at himself for allowing things to go this far when they shouldn't have. How did it all happen? Rabbitwind fiercely shot a paw out against the sand, each particle flying out in front of him and showering into the small pond. He watched in amazement as they all fell. "I can't escape it" he repeated again, finally ripping his gaze away from the pond and meeting with Snowfire. His eyes held such fear. The type of fear you see from a cat whom had just killed another, not a young, innocent cat plagued by nightmares. It would never make sense to Rabbitwind. None of this would. Through these seemingly forever lasting few minutes, the only important thing Rabbitwind truly took away was that Snowfire was completely different than what he had originally believed. Rabbitwind was surprisingly more alike him than he had thought. The slim warrior shook his head, seeming like he'd returned to the world around him. "I'm sorry" he meowed abruptly, "I didn't mean to interrupt. But, is that.. that dream, real? or simply a dream?"
