long live the k i n g [starling & rabbit]

the sun was not in the sky that day.

imagine this, a scene is built before you - where dark stormy clouds as black as night lay above - hardly a light to be seen, an omen to some and yet to the shadows that lingered it was coverage. trees were casted in the distance, something far from the dark waters that lay to rest just a few moments ahead. for there was something of a feline standing in the distance, fur as dark as the sky itself and beside said feline - a shadow twice as large, hovering over the smaller, fur a mixture of light and dark, where grey met solid black. for there were two cats, eyes as different as the sky and the earth - for the black was green and the grey was yellow. with them came an air of something different, and for that we force not on the little female, but the older tom whose muzzle was scared with fresh claw marks.

the male feline was known simply as wren, a tom whose line could be traced back to a clan of the past; windclan. he was a odd tom, a cat whose personality wrapped around certain cats and held on like a tightening blow. hold onto the little bird, to tight and you may kill it, but hold it to gentle and it'll fly away. so he had been a tom of few words once more, gentle with his eyes and body, but harsh in the night when he thought the female was not watching. for his ways were stuck into his very soul, like tar clinging to that of it's victim - this gentle nature was hard to find within his soul, hard and long since lost beginning to unfold. we are almost there, starling. we are almost to our new home. it wasn't hard to understand; having come the night before to watch this clan from afar.

needless to say he had returned on his way back to starling and their den to find a rogue feline sniffing off in the distance with the small pile of prey he had managed to gather in the two days they'd been there. he could remember how the cat had attacked him after he had threaten the cat's life and when the two had parted ways; the other cat bleeding, but with his prey and his pride - wren had laid beneath the stars, wishing for a moment to prove he was capable to defend not only himself but the she-cat he had grown fond of in the last couple of moons. in truth they had been traveling four days before they picked up the trail and now - a fortnight later, they were within sight of the border. he could smell the scent markers, see the crushed grass and even hear the missing sound of prey from here. but the water glittered on beside them - it's dark depths a mystery.

a storm was following them, but they had found a home.

with eyes of liquid fire, the grey tabby lifted his muzzle to the sky with a look of utter determination and distaste. "i swore they patrol here every couple of sun shifts." he meowed, more to himself then to the young she-cat at his side. but as he stared up and out into the open fields he could see the distant figure of a cat. that must be one of this hillclan cats. turning to look down at the female who had been his companion since near birth, he brushed his tail along side her flank before lifting his maw to call out a greeting. 'young warrior, we wish to seek your console." turn his head back to the she-cat beside him he nudged her gently, trying to calm himself more then to offer her comfort. he was the one who would have to swindle their way into this clan - to lie and be dishonest to gain them both a part.

but for her, he'd do anything.
