a storm had slashed it's way across the evening sky, frightening creatures sizing from the smallest of field mice to the largest of badgers. the thunder clashed harshly over head, causing cats to flinch and lean into one another, but there was nothing for the young calico female to do. she laid upon the edge of the warrior's den, eyes watching as the lightning danced it's merry dance across the sky; striking here and there, and as the lights flashed and brought other cats into the dens. their pelts wet with the beginning of the shower as the silence became a hum for the rain. she would lie there; amber eyes wide as the female feline looked out at the darkening clouds and watched the sky as it continued it's dance, with lights springing forth and thunder clapping it's own tune no one would dare question her as she watched the lights flash before her eyes - like a life coming and going and with wary eyes she lifted her body from the nest and into the rain stilled camp.
her heart told her to flee, to run from this clan with such a fever that those who still lay awake in this weather would hear her heavy paws as they pounded against the ground in a heated anger. no one would blame her, no one would hate her for it - but with each wary step into the rain soaked camp, where the ground grew damp below paw and her pelt heavy with not only her worries but the cool liquid from above, she knew her course of action. 'coward is what they will call you. but I will never.' her mentor meowed softly in her head, and with that in mind she lifted her head to wards the sky. the rain pressed against the fur upon her face in a way that nearly brought a weeping sound from her throat, but she could be brave, she would withstand the pain that lay heavy in her heart. she was one pine and fawn - one who had become leader of treeclan and the other a heartless woman who could not even attempt to work things out with her kit's father and instead moved on to another life and tom.
'goodbye wolfstep, gorsefeather, uncle birchfall and auntie maplefrost.' she thought, regarding that she had liked her uncle and aunt much more then she did her own brother gorsefeather - but that tom had always been a nerve on her spin that itched and itched. but family was everything to her and where gorsefeather and her may of fought countless days, she knew deep in her heart she would stand by him if he asked it of her. tail lashing from side to side she closed her eyes with a soft nod of her head. she knew what she would do; she would return to her home clan, she would become apart of treeclan and never leave it. she was loyal only to her family and as far as it seemed, her family rested in treeclan and not here, sure her brothers and uncle and aunt would be dearly missed, but her father - the only cat to have ever believed in her did not live in creekclan. the clan she was forced to call home and live with along side her mother and brothers. that day would always replay in her head, from where she followed her siblings, head held high as tiny pieces of her heart lay behind - each falling with each step.
but it was those pieces that would lead her home - she was sure of it. from where she stood in front of the entrance now, looking high up and suddenly the shuffling of paws drew her attention to her left. the creamy pelt of a female was easily noted and with a drawn in breath, dapplesong felt her heart strings pull in all directions. "will you be leaving tonight, dapplesong?" her voice was gentle and when dapplesong looked away in embarrassment the elder she-cat only laughed and nudged her onward. "be gentle on me in battle dear, but remember should you come home I will be here waiting." with a grateful look, and a grateful lick to her mentor's cheek, dapplesong rushed forward, her whole body feeling somewhat lighter as she ran - her direction straight for the clan she had wished to be apart of all her life. but as the rain began to lessen and her heart began to beat, she remembered. they came in soft flashes; of her and her mentor battle training - of her and wolfstep sharing touches and of her and gorsefeather getting along on a rare chance.
they came in visions of her friends and family within creekclan, oh the joyous laughter and excited expressions. it was with these that stopped her just on the inside of the treeclan territory; her face wide with understanding. creekclan is my temporary home, one day I will return to treeclan. her eyes widen softly now, understanding now. it was then that she heard a yowl - something she wasn't expecting and then her back was against the ground within enemy territory. HER OWN YOWL WAS PITIFUL, AS SHE SHOVED WITH ALL HER MIGHT TO DETACH THE CAT FROM HER PERSON. AS SHE KICKED, AND THE BROWN TOM WENT FLYING BACK; DAPPLESONG ROSE TO HER PAWS AND STARED; TAIL FLICKING FROM SIDE TO SIDE. "I AM NO ENEMY, PLEASE.. I JUST STEPPED OVER THE BORDER BY ACCIDENT." SHE MEOWED, HER EXPLANATION SOUNDING DRY TO HER. LEAVING THE TREECLAN CAT TO HISS IN RESPONSE; "I'LL TEACH A PRETTY LITTLE THING LIKE YOU WHAT I MEANS TO TRESSPASS ON ANOTHER'S TERRITORY!" WITH EYES FILLED WITH TERROR DAPPLESONG COULD ONLY STEP BACK; HER HEART BEATING FASTER AS SHE PRAYED FOR LUCK AND FOR SAFETY. 'I AM SORRY I HAVE FAILED YOU ALL.' SHE THOUGHT WITH A PAINED EXPRESSION. [presto] pinewhisker, "hello, um, my name is dapplesong, and I have posted 1007 words and I have two things to say to you "nah & nah" alright mkay bye!" sorry for the random oc of brindlefang SEND HIM AWAY FOR DADDY DAUGHTER MOMENTS <3

i'm looking for purpose, you're still looking for light
it was a rather unsettled night. the skies above seemed to display their protests of the actions below but a little yelling and screaming would not stop pinewhisker. not tonight. he'd spent most of his day training that damn apprentice of his - begrudgingly pushing the tom harder and warning him of his temper and anger. but after that he returned to camp, walked about it alone. shared a rabbit with a young warrior - a little she-cat who seemed (at least as far as he could remember) stricken but he showed no such interest. and considering his former living patterns it was a strange sight to see. the little fem had practically thrown herself at his paws and almost begged to come with him but he declined the offer with little interest. this was not a she-cat of his interest - he didn't like the ones that he didn't have to work for. sure they were fun to play with from time to time but pinewhisker was in no such mood for that.
so instead after their meal he retired to his den and listened to the storm as it rolled through. the violent rumbles and growls sounding from the sky and brilliant flashes of white fire so bright that it illuminated his den. but he remained there alone - the way he always had. since birchfall had left with maplefrost there was little that pinewhisker found joy in. there were the occasional time when aspenfeather poked his head into the den and mewed a hello and the two would go off and hunt together but other than that he had no companion. no one to hold himself onto when the nights got rough. most cats wouldn't understand that though. all they saw was the awful pinewhisker that almost everyone hated. he pushed his warriors hard and pushed his own apprentice probably the hardest of them all. he had no respect for the cats around him and only seemed interested in showing how he belonged in power rather than at the sidelines. but that hunger for power was what drove him mad most days.
as the sky darkened there was almost no signs of the storm letting up and even less evidence that the leader would catch any real sort of sleep that night. the tom-cat instead rose to his paws and slowly moved himself from the nest he had settled into what seemed like hours before and padded slowly from the den. there were no other cats in camp - it was quiet spare the groaning and grumbling from above. the tabby let out a soft sigh before his brisk paws carried him out of camp. when sleep would not take there was only one place pinewhisker went. creekclan's border.
many cats probably doubted his loyalty to treeclan or very well could have if it were not for the fact that no matter who he lost or what drove them away he stood stronger and taller than before. fawnspots had been the first to leave - she took them, the kits, with her. since that dark time pinewhisker had been practically unable to open up to anyone. now sure he and fawnspots had never really gotten along and it was not the she-cat's disappearance that had truly torn him apart. it had been the loss of his kits. gorsefeather pained him most - seeing the anger and hate that fawnspots had seeded in his heart that seemed to be reserved for pinewhisker. wolfstep was a good son and tried to do right by everyone and there were times where even the great leader such as himself felt guilt for putting his youngest son in that position. but it was dapplesong that had pained him the most to see go. she had been his perfect little kit from the beginning. she'd been so sweet and kind and pinewhisker would have - and still would - lay down his life for that little fem. as much as it was insane for him to say - selfish even - his daughter even came before his clan.
pinewhisker had been only slightly aware of the yowling that sounded ahead of him but he dismissed it quickly as a cat who had been met by a border patrol. his body shifted as if about to pad down along the border away from the two but then a single voice rang through. suddenly a fire was set through pinewhisker as he raced toward the two cats and quite literally slammed into the flank of his own warrior. a terrifying snarl sounded from his throat and the warrior turned quickly, pelt bristling but froze when he saw pinewhisker. "You'll do nothing of the sort Redfeather. If you so much as look at her again I will gouge your eyes out myself." He growled, tail lashing back and forth. His tabby pelt was bristling; giving him the appearance of a cat nearly twice his size. Though it was not the cat's pelt that should have frightened Redfeather. The TreeClanners knew of pinewhisker's... temper. or really lid on his temper. no matter what pressing issue he was faced with it was always met with a rather calm demeanor. but this was a completely different story.
the cat that stood before Redfeather now was furious - yellow eyes blazing brighter than the sun with anger and tail lashing violently behind him. it seemed as though every little piece of pinewhisker that had ever remained even remotely secret was now non-existent. redfeather took a single look toward pinewhisker before his eyes briefly fluttered to the she-cat but was instantly met with pinewhisker shifting his body into the line of sight. The tabby tom moved forward slowly and spoke so lightly that it could barely be heard over the storm. "do you understand me?" the russet colored tom quickly nodded his head and took several steps backward before practically tripping over the root of a bush and then disappearing from the clearing. pinewhisker followed the movements until he was certain the tom was gone but muscles remained tense. "did he hurt you, dapplesong?" his voice was almost strained with the idea of his own warrior hurting his daughter and while he knew it was the loyalty to treeclan that had driven redfeather to act that way... well to pinewhisker it was unacceptable all the same.

DAPPLESONG
"I'LL TEACH A PRETTY LITTLE THING LIKE YOU WHAT I MEANS TO TRESSPASS ON ANOTHER'S TERRITORY!"
that tom's voice was clearly meaning the threat and in all honestly she had never heard such hatred and cruelty within a tom's voice. what have I done to displease you so. her mind whispered as she stepped back another pawstep. she knew her blood was of thunder - that should of been enough to grant her a free trip back to her territory but this tom, redfeather, was not holding back, he stalked forward towards her and she felt the tug of another yowl threaten to pull at her throat. how could se not understand the simple fact that she had not helped the tom before her, had only thought of herself in those few moments before and now she could feel the guilt rising in her throat, like vomit threatening to explode from her maw. but as soon as the tom had spoken those words there was a sudden flash of gingery-brown fur and redfeather was out of her line of sight.
you'll do nothing of the sort, redfeather. if you do much as look at her again I will gouge your eyes out myself.
that meow. turning her head very so slowly, the young female's eyes widen to a almost disbelieving amount. she could see the cat who had come to her rescue so clearly now that it sang though out her body with glee and wonder and praise. she loved this tom dearly, almost to the point that it would drive a wedge between her clan and her family, something she fretted over almost all the time, but it was for the other cat she truly felt afraid for. the tom, redfeather it seemed, was chancing a glance at her, and from beyond her father's interference she lifted herself onto her hind legs, eyes apologizing before she could even utter the words. she felt her heart tremble as the other cat tumbled away from them and in those moments her rescuer turned and she stared up into her father's eyes.
did he hurt you dapplesong?
her expression was timid, her eyes fluttering down to her own paws in that moment of sheer overwhelming. did he hurt me? I do not know father. her thoughts were scattered and shattered when she had nearly come to terms with the fact that the other cat was simply doing their job. how her father could choose her other his own clan put a gentle ease, but also a strain on her own mind and heart. you should not have done that father. her mind mused to her, gently telling her she didn't belong here. she was of the thunder, truly, but she was also apart of the creek. with the utmost worry on her face she lifted her tiny head to look up at her father as she had so many times before.
"please don't punish him, daddy. he was doing his job."
she left out the part of her sore back, but that would be for another day. the gentle claws marks that ranks her shoulders where the other tom had been were not deep enough to draw anything more then a seconds worth of blood and in all honestly they left only a tickle now that she had nearly forgotten about them. redfeather had only been doing his duty, had been a loyal warrior to treecan and she would go down any path to let the warrior off the hook. her eyes were pleading up at her father, begging him to be merciful to a tom who had only gave her a small discomfort. it wasn't like redfeather was doing to do any real harm anyways.
"I... oh daddy, I've missed you so."
her meow was soft, almost a silent wail as she pushed forward, forgetting the borders, the clans, the titles. she may of been a warrior of creekclan, but within that moment of sheer and utter weakness, she felt as if she was just dapple, the young kitten whose mother and father still cared something for each other. dapple, the kitten whose every bruised was treated with care by a tom she knew only as daddy. her eyes grew glossy with what would soon be tears if she did not pull back to look up at her father with clear and utter pain. she didn't know where it was coming from, but the raw emotion tore at her like claws against flesh.

stick to our guns and likely it came to no surprise when pinewhisker was angry with redfeather. the young warrior had threatened his daughter and regardless of her loyalties he would have protected her with his life. it did not matter to him in any way shape or form where her feet lead her or where her thoughts took her because her heart always managed to bring her home. even if it was only for a short time like this one would be. he always knew these meetings were temporary but how much longer temporary they would remain was a mystery. though he knew it was not tonight. there was a feeling in his bones that he just... he just knew tonight would not be the night. as much as he wished the day would come - that dapplesong would come home with him where she belonged and not with fawnspots, he was aware that this was her decision and she had to make it when she was ready not when he wanted it. as painful as it was to have his only daughter and closest child so far away, she was old enough to make her own decisions and he could not do it for her anymore.
the cat flicked his tail slowly back and forth as he watched his warrior go, the sun coated yellow eyes following the movements of the ginger colored tom. though in seconds he had forgotten all about the cat and the pain he had caused his daughter - at least for the moment. she did not answer the question of if she was hurt but after a quick once over he determined that most of the damage was likely mentally or emotionally rather than physically. The russet tom did not respond immediately though to her request. the cat pondered what to say, knowing that indeed it was the job of redfeather and had it been any other cat he likely would have looked the other way entirely. with a slight sigh the cat slowly nodded.
"yes, i know it is, dapplesong. he will not be punished."
though after that he did not speak again. he instead looked down at his kit with soft eyes, attempting to think of what to ask her, what kind of questions he could ask her about how creekclan was treating her. when she had been younger it had been easier because he could ask about training and who her mentor was and how she was fairing with the other cats. now that she was older and a warrior that conversation was replaced with gentler topics such as how the rest of the kits were and how fawnspots was. as much as he hated the she-cat for taking his kits away from him, she was there mother and he wanted to know that she was fairing well because he was aware of how much gorsefeather needed his mother from the stories. the tabby tom slowly lifted his gaze from the ground where he had been staring, thinking about what to ask her and opened his mouth as if about to speak but he was met with her own despaired voice and instead he lifted himself to his paws and moved closer, gently nuzzling his daughter before sitting beside her and drawing her close.
"I've missed you too, dapplesong. but what is wrong... there is something wrong, isn't there? you can tell me you know."
this amount of concern was something most cats within treeclan were not aware that pinewhisker was even capable of showing let alone feeling. he had a tendency to push the cats in his clan as far away as he possibly could without giving them any real chance to get close at all. aspenfeather was about the only cat that was till there for him in treeclan. the rest of his family was in creekclan and with them the majority of his compassion. between birchfall and dapplesong he was quite literally torn in two. but he couldn't tell them that because he couldn't give them that burden. they were happy over there. or at least birchfall was. dapplesong had things she still needed to accomplish in creekclan before the day would come that she would join treeclan. what that was though, pinewhisker had never really been too sure but it was all right because he'd have waited til he died of old age to have his daughter in treeclan where she belonged and his family reunited.
"how are things fairing in creekclan? your brothers and mother? how are they doing?"
in truth he wanted to draw her away from the pain she felt. she didn't deserve to feel so trapped in her emotions and honestly while he had been stuck there more than once in his life; pinewhisker certainly did not want his daughter in that position. a part of him told him that maybe he should ask about birchfall and maplefrost as well and probably rabbitfoot but he couldnt... simply couldn't. their betrayal was still so fresh in his mind that he had difficulty believing it had even happened some days. and then he woke up and the nightmare he had been dreaming turned out to be real. that was the way it had been the last few moons. constant reminder of how he failed his family and himself. love like battleships
